HEY! It’s me (Abdullah Sohel) again, back with another article to help you live a better more fuller life.
Before I begin and get into the details of ‘How’ let me tell you a little back story of where my journey really began and how I was able to conquer myself.
The year was 2013 I was 19 years old and I was freshly broke! Yep, I was broke. I had a business to my name yeah, but was it making money? Impressive amounts. Sure, I had an apartment under my name; but was I able to make payments? Not a day late; And sure, I had a car to take me around but was I able to afford gas? Totally.
I know, now you’re thinking I had more than what a 19-year-old should have. So, how was I broke? Well – my motivation checking account was $0. I didn’t have the motivation to carry on working. I didn’t have any new ideas like I used to, I was…and I had to admit It…slowing down. *GASP*
Ahem! So, I am 19 years old, successful but motivationally broke. Before I even realized it my body had given into gluttony munching away on life’s greatest produce. Followed by bad strategies at work which eventually lead to a fall in the charts, AND THIS IS JUST THE FIRST YEAR!
Over the course of the next 2 years, I had become overweight, developed a hypertension problem, a bad back, bad eyesight, and hair loss. Lots of hair loss.
I would sit and wonder where it all went wrong and one day after 3 years of dealing with self- loathing crap it hit me. I didn’t love myself. I DIDN’T LOVE MYSELF ANYMORE. That meant I wasn’t able to love anything else or anyone (sorry to my ex for wasting her time).
Fast forward to 2017, I am back home and as I overlook the reservoir into the city I visualize the ancient dream of conquering the world. Being someone who is of power and importance, but how can I make it possible when I am just laying in bed and eating myself to death.
Youtube! Yep, youtube. A short video by Les Brown (Amazing person by the way) on making decisions. One thing he said that really struck me “Deciding not to decide is still a decision.” “Uh, okay!”
So, how does one really just wake up one day and snap into a money making – happy feeling – machine? I am about to list in DETAIL the things I personally do to keep myself motivated no matter what kind of shit goes down in my life. Unpredictable things happen all the time and it shouldn’t be something to hold you back from living your life to the fullest…
STEP ONE: WAKE UP!
Wake up! Yes, wake up! The first step to changing yourself is to wake up; I am a heavy sleeper so I can say with utter confidence that I overslept my alarms for years before I had my “awakening”. I currently have twelve alarms ranging throughout the day just to remind me of the simple things like “Drink water” or “Take a break” and since everything is scheduled for me currently I can feed off these times to really take a breather; especially when things get overwhelming.
Start by looking at your current routine & ask yourself “Am I satisfied with this route in life” If the answer is yes, just skip to another step ‘cause you’re just wasting time here Bruh.
If you’re still reading this – mainly means you’re looking for a change.
AH! Wake up! I used to be an early riser but then life happened and you know if you’ve been reading how I ended up for a few years, but it all changed when I “woke up”. I set my alarm to 5:30 am, 6:00 am, 6:30 am and so forth till 9:00 am. Guess when I woke up? 11:00 am! AN HOUR EARLIER THAN USUAL!
I celebrated by eating a huge breakfast! I have achieved my first goal. Achieving a goal has a great deal of happiness to it, even if it is an easy goal – celebrate that shit! Feel like a winner; be a winner.
STEP TWO: TALK TO YOURSELF!
Talk to yourself! Sounds crazy right? who said I was sane anyways.
The fact that I admit to being a little crazy gives me the edge to be better than “Normal” pshh whatever that is right?
Self-pep talk is really important guys, if you can’t say nice things about yourself – you’re just untrustworthy; And that’s not what you want to be if you’re planning to go out and be the new bossier you. The trick is to trust yourself completely and tell yourself constantly “I GOT THIS.”. Once you are able to pep talk yourself into feeling even 1% better than you were – celebrate that shit and go do something that makes you happy or buy an item off your wish list as a gift to yourself for being so awesome.
Life is very simple guys, people and their thoughts make it so complicated. It doesn’t have to be like that at all. I have learned how to manage my thoughts in a positive channel just by talking to myself every morning and night – right before I sleep. So remember guys: TRUST YOURSELF
STEP THREE: EDUCATE!
No, I don’t mean you go out and enroll yourself in school or get a degree – I dropped out myself and I’m no hypocrite.
What I mean by educating yourself is to study the art of your field, master your work, your interest or hobby that you think can take you to greater heights.
I personally try to finish a book weekly. Not a reader? The internet will be your best friend.
I have developed a habit to constantly educate myself and others around me, sometimes it comes off as cocky or showing off but it’s from a good heart. I know the struggles of wanting to do something with no proper guidance available or just being shy to ask;
But guys, this kind of knowledge comes with a lot of weight – the more you learn – you’ll realize, and when that happens you will start to let thing & people go. I would honestly suggest to take it slow, one chapter at a time, so that you can really grasp what you are learning.
Pro tip: DON’T LEARN USELESS SHIT FIRST.
STEP FOUR: THE LITTLE THINGS!
Ah! So, you’ve made it so far. I hope I’ve made an impact on your life even if it’s a teeny tiny bit.
What drives a person crazy? Too much information. When you know too much, you tend to let things go – the smaller things. Don’t! They matter the most. Like making an investment. You have to let it mature over time to give you it’s potential returns. Same thing with the small stuff.
STEP FIVE: RENEWAL!
This is the last and final step. Renewal. Pretty obvious? No?
Alright, what I mean by RENEWAL is to be able to use all this information to make a life fulfilling machine out of yourself, to FINALLY love what you see in the mirror. To have the opportunity to change and make a change.
Start small but always finish big. Like a showman, you will be performing but this time the audience is tough, a picky critic. It’s you.
Outshine everything you’ve been before this, every “performance” was just a build-up to this moment. To bring you here – to when you finally change your life for the better.
You could be suffering from a mental illness, I won’t say your mindset can solve that but it can slow down the growth of it. We as humans are the most powerful beings on this planet, our brains’ so complex that it will still function a few moments after our heart stops – because of unfinished business. Don’t let that moment be regret. Say what you want, do what you want and above all BE WHAT YOU WANT.
