Even if you have your dream job, there are days when work can really take it out of you so here are some tips for staying motivated and making it through even the hardest shifts…
First and foremost, smile!
I would say that the most important aspect to staying motivated, is staying positive. Going in with a smile on your face and reminding yourself to make the best of it, may not turn it into the best day ever but I can guarantee that your day will be more much enjoyable than if you go in with a negative attitude. If you walk into the office “knowing” you’re going to have a bad day, it’s more than likely to become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
So that’s tip number one: stay positive!
The next thing on my list would be to get moving your body moving during your shift. You might be thinking, “And get my work clothes all sweaty?” Not at all!
I’m not talking about a full cardio workout in the office, just a few light exercises during the day to give you a little more energy. Something as simple as a walk could make a big difference! But if you want to crank it up a notch, I shared a 10 minute “Workout at Work” routine that you can do without breaking a sweat. Perfect for that mid-shift lunch break.
And, if your boss says anything about it, just let him/her know that it helps you stay productive!
Tip number 3 is a quick and effective one, splash some cold water on your face. If you don’t want to ruin your makeup, just drinking some water could do the trick. Just a few sips can bring your energy and focus levels way up!
Tip #4: Bring something to work that will keep you motivated. Make sure it’s not something distracting, you still want to be able to focus on your work. Just a little something to make your shift a bit more interesting or fun for you.
Let me give you a personal example… If you know me, you know I love stationery. So when I was feeling down and unmotivated at work, I bought myself a cute little notebook at the dollar store and instead of taking any work related notes on scraps of papers or on my phone, I would take them in my notebook. Since it was my personal notepad I would also write little inspirational messages to myself, doodles and fun things like that to keep me going throughout the day.
I know it doesn’t sound like something that could make a big difference, but that’s exactly my point… it’s the little things that, even if you’re not really enjoying what you’re doing at the moment, can actually motivate you to be better, do better and feel better!
Last tip for this topic: Change your look!
This may be interpreted differently by different people but generally speaking, the results will be the same. For instance, a new hairstyle might increase your confidence and improve your mood. Maybe you want to work on changing your body physically, gaining a little muscle or losing some unwanted pounds. Maybe you need a simpler change such as a new outfit or new shoes!
I can tell you from personal experience that the way you look can completely impact the way you feel, and vice versa of course — if you feel good, you’ll look more vibrant and happy. The more confident, beautiful, and happy you feel, the more motivated, energized and productive you’ll be!
So the next time you’re feeling a little lazy and bored at work, try at least one of these five tips!
