Brown or age spots usually occur due to the presence of an excess amount of melanin, a skin pigment beneath the skin. Some people have light brown spots while others suffer from heavy spotting on the face and other body parts. There are also several other reasons for the development of these spots, including:

  • Skin aging.

Although there are several ways to get rid of these spots, it is best to consult with a dermatologist for prolonged and successful results.  If you don’t want to bother with any ol’ dermatologist, you can try out some of these home remedies which can provide you with tremendous results. Home remedies are also natural and does not provide the harmful effects that store bought creams do.  Although these home remedies are slow in action, if applied on a regular basis, you can notice positive effects.

Use of papaya

Papaya contains special enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids which are very helpful for the nourishment of the skin. When it reacts with melanin, it helps dissolve the dark pigments on your skin and gives it a lighter tone. It also reduces:

  • Pigmentation

You can either apply papaya extract directly on your face or you can prepare a simple mask of papaya with honey to get the best effects. Apply the mixture on your face until it dissolves. Take one tablespoon of onion and two tablespoons of honey, mix it thoroughly and apply it on face. Let it dry and rinse with water.

Rinse it off with some warm water after 15 minutes.

You  can also apply yogurt in the form of a paste. Mix together a tablespoon of yogurt, two tablespoons of oatmeal and one teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix it well to form a paste and apply it on your face. When it dries off, rinse it with cold water. Apply some moisturizer after washing your face. You will observe a good change in your skin after a few days.

Apple cider vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar has various medicinal qualities, including aiding in weight loss. Did you know ACV also helps in reducing brown spot? Apply a mixture of a teaspoon of vinegar and a teaspoon of water on the dark spot. Wash it off with some warm water after 15 minutes. You can also use it with honey to get rid of any other marks or spots on your face. The acidic ingredients in apple cider vinegar will help in reduction of the brown spots and you can notice a change immediately.

Lemon

It helps in soothing the skin and combined with honey, it makes for a soothing mask that combats dark brown spots extremely well.

Natural home-based remedies are easy to make and apply, inexpensive and provides a far less drastic options than buying creams and moisturisers from a store. Although these remedies are proven to reduce brown spots, it is always advisable to visit a dermatologist if your condition does not improve.
